The Robot Car Retriever

We’ve already posted a bit about robotic vehicles here at nxtbot.com, but what about robotic garages? Now we have news that VW has developed a robotic car storage and retrieval system for storing new vehicles. It seems that the car grabber can fetch your new car for you if you happen to purchase a vehicle from the VW plant in Wolfsburg, Germany.

It’s even so that you can go to Wolfsburg, with your credit card. They print a numberplate for you and you can drive way :) .

Wow. Makes me want to go to Germany if I ever buy a VW. :)

How many towers like this does VW have in Germany? Is there a possibility that they could build more of these in other locations?

It’s not a hoax (as far as I know) — Snopes has confirmation:

It’s not a public parking garage — VW uses it to house some of their newly manufactured vehicles.

I first saw this concept on an episode of Thunderbirds, the cult 1960′s TV series. There’s nothing new under the sun.
