Citroen’s transforming car-bot
Posted by Jeff in General robotics news, Robotic vehiclesIn one of the coolest combinations of robotics, visual effects and advertising we’ve seen in some time, French automaker Citroen has produced not one, but two tv ads featuring the Citroen C4 (a small vehicle primarily available only in Europe) transforming into a Transformer-esque character.
In the first ad, the C4 does some warm-up exercises before busting out a funky dance routine. In the second ad (still image shown above) the car hops onto the ice for some speed skating practice. CGI house Embassy Visual Effects is credited with both spots, and rightfully earned a few awards for their work. (Source: Channel 4, Embassy VFX) – [Jeff James]

Actually there is atleast a 3rd movie – This one has the car transform and dance. Tres Cool.

Well it’s a Citroen C4 tv ad, thus nothing to do with Renault (in France it’s Citroen/Peugeot vs Renault, their main competitor), would be like saying Ford is selling Chevrolet cars or Toyota is selling Honda cars (altough all of this could be one day reality, seeing the big “mergings” we have seen this last years in Car industry).
I have heard (altough not sure) that these ads have been conceived/directed by Neill Blomkamp, the guy that did the “tempbot” video

He did as well “Alive in Jo’burg” and “Tetra Vaal”, both very nice videos.
Right you are Jerome — the headline and half the text referenced Citroen, but for some reason a Renault snuck its way into the conversation.
Must be my terminal case of French auto marque dyslexia…
I’ll fix it.
